Crew Dragon successfully docked to the ISS. This is the first private manned ship in human history
The Crew Dragon spacecraft was developed by Elon Mask’s SpaceX. The ship became the first private manned vehicle, docked to the International Space Station.
The founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk, stated that this mission was «the first step towards making people an interplanetary species.» «This ship is created by humans for humans,« he said. Musk believes that humanity can be proud of this flight, but this is not a victory yet. Now SpaceX must return the astronauts to Earth and regularly repeat flights like this.
On May 30, Crew Dragon launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. At launch, the ship was assisted by the Falcon 9 booster rocket. There were two American astronauts on the ship — Bob Benken and Doug Hurley — who successfully flew to the ISS.
Since 2011, NASA astronauts flew to the ISS on Russian Soyuz spacecraft. For the United States, the launch of the Crew Dragon was the first manned flight since Space Shuttle.
