Neuralink, a company engaged in the development and production of implantable neurocomputer interfaces, led by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, is preparing to introduce a version of the new implant into the human body. According to the Musk, they want to introduce it within a year. About this Neuralink CEO told in the podcast of Joe Rogan.
The implant will directly interact with the human brain. The initial goal of an implant is to use it as a treatment for brain injuries.
The microchip can be used to restore vision, hearing and movement of the limbs in addition to fighting diseases that affect the brain, Musk says. The device will be implanted directly into the skull to allow electrode filaments to interact with specific areas of the brain.
This is not the first time Musk has made such statements. Back in July 2019, Musk said he hoped to install an implant in the patient by the end of next year.
But these are just the “early ambitions” that Musk is preparing for Neuralink. In the long run, he hopes to develop a device that could provide a «symbiosis» between people and artificial intelligence.
